Visa

Australians travelling on an Australian passport do not need a visa if staying in the country for 21 days or less.
 

Passport

For tourism visits of up to 21 days you must ensure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months at the time of entry.

Currency & Credit Cards

The local currency is the Peso (PHP) and the exchange rate is usually around 50 Peso to the Australian dollar. The Philippine banknotes come in 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 & 1000 Pesos. Coins are 100 centavos which equal 1 peso. Credit cards are widely accepted in all hotels, bars, restaurants and shops.

Weather

The climate in the Philippines is tropical with high humidity in the cities however the beach locations are always far more comfortable with trade winds bring relief to the humidity. Daytime temperatures rise above 30°C year-round and night-time temperatures rarely drop below 20°C.

Getting Around

Jeepneys are the most popular means of public transportation in the Philippines. They were originally made from US military jeeps left over from World War II and are known for their flamboyant decoration and crowded seating. Getting to other destinations in the Philippines is relatively easy with buses, coaches being the most affordable method of transport. The Philippines has a number of domestic airlines that all offer cheap prices and excellent services throughout the country.

What to Wear

Lightweight, loose-fitting clothes are sensible at any time of year. Pack shorts, skirts and t-shirts as it is always hot, even after it has rained. But malls, cinemas and hotels are all air-conditioned so that you will get very cold in shorts and t-shirt outfit and it is suggested you carry a light, cotton shawl when you are in air conditioned areas.
